The bear was not seen as a threat to Krista but more as a happy thing. Along with other animals that come through her yard she lets them pass, and she keeps the peace.

"Maybe it's the sense that our carefully controlled world still has room for something wild and unexpected." What this linemshows is that even in a suburban area, acts of nature can happen and it can be amazing. The syntax in this is also good. I like how she says "carefully controlled world". That is also sort of the style of writing that she does. Its got its own feel to it.
